Room temparature tap water is abolutely perfect for your microgreens, no need for filtering. There are however some things to consider:
- Very cold or very hot water can shock your plants, affecting their growth. Room temperature water is best.
- Avoid softened water, it can slow the growth of your plants. The Calcium and Mgansium in harder water is actually beneficial to your microgreens.
- Highly chlorinated water will have a negtaive impact on the growth of your microgreens, their appearance and taste.
GRO TIP: An easy and natural way to dechlorinate water (and bring it to room temperature) is to fill the watering container and leave it to sit for a day, uncovered. This will allow the chlorine to evaporate.
Which MicroFarm is best suited to your needs depends on a few of things:
- How frequently you want to include microgreens in your meals
- How many people you are feeding
- How much space you have
If you grow on our SowLogic continuous grow cycle, a Single MicroFarm will yield 8 serving of microgreens per week. A serving is what we recommend to be the minimum amount of microgreens to include in a meal in order to benefit from their health giving properties.

Bootstrap Farmer microgreen trays are made of heavy duty plastic, making them infinitely reusable when cared for properly.
Proper care includes:
- Cleaning your trays after use with hot water and soap
- Storing your trays away from heat sources like heaters, fires, and the hot summer sun
- the LED vegetable grow lights on the MicroFarm get warm but they are ok 👍 they will not harm your trays
- Storing your trays protected against freezing temperatures
- Not using the trays for unintended purposes like stacking or storing corrosive, or excessively heavy items inside them
Grow media is a term used to describe the material that is used to grow plants in. The term ‘substrate’ is also used and means the same thing. Grow Medium refers to one particular grow medium (singular), while Grow Media reference mutliple grow mediums (plural).
As the word suggests, a Soilless grow medium is any sterile medium for growing plants that doesn’t include soil. There are a variety of soilless media made from organic and inorganic materials including coconut coir, peat moss, hemp, as well as silicone and wire mats, to name a few.
We have tested an continually test a diversity of grow media. The grow media we carry is selected based on quality, dependability and practicality.
We want you to be successful, that’s why we thoughtfully pair media with seeds to provide you with the best growing expeience.
